Living Wage UK
Assess the case for and against the setting and enforcement of a living wage in the United Kingdom.
provide critically analysed background to the recent history of the minimum wage in the UK and more recent arguments for and against a living wage,
• illustrate and critically apply the standard market model of supply and demand and how a minimum wage in this model may cause unemployment (consideration of elasticities would be a good addition),
• contrast the standard model with the efficiency wage hypothesis,
• Directly link minimum wage and living wage arguments, are they consistent?
• possibly link arguments to the equity and efficiency arguments of the initial lectures
• additionally you may want to consider the role of trade Unions and/ or market structure (who has the power)
• Finally draw critical conclusions, which should be your considered and evidenced based position – not just a couple of repetitive sentences.
