Visceral concern
Your viscera is your gut. A visceral concern is your initial/gut feeling /opinion/thoughts about a topic. This is not to say that these responses are not reasoned and intelligent. For example, if I say “Climate Change” what is your visceral response? What are your thoughts/feelings/opinion about it?
Purpose
What is the purpose of your research? Why are you doing it? What do you want to accomplish? The purpose of your research is to determine if your visceral concern is valid or not.
Hypothesis
An essential component of the scientific process is the formulation and evaluation of hypotheses. In seeking to learn more about the social world, social scientists ask many different kinds of questions about relationships between factors of social life, historical events, historical periods, etc.

A hypothesis is a tentative statement that proposes a possible explanation for some phenomenon or event in science, social life, or history.
Types of hypotheses
Interrogative- an interrogative hypothesis asks a question
Declarative- a declarative hypothesis makes a statement
Conditional- a conditional hypothesis suggests a tentative relationship between two variables
Methodology
State as precisely as possible how you will do your research. What methodologies will you utilize: cause and effect, historical time line, comparison and contrast, etc.
